Brandon Goldberg Trio
The Django2 6th Avenue, New York 10013
Brandon Goldberg brings his trio to The Django for a late Monday set, with Goldberg on piano, Joey Ranieri on bass, and Ben Esposito on drums. The award-winning pianist and composer leads the three-piece group in the venue’s cellar-level room at the Roxy Hotel, where the focus is squarely on the interplay of piano, bass, and drums.
South Florida-born and New York-based, Goldberg has been playing piano and making music since the age of three. He is known for jazz piano and composition, with releases including LET’S PLAY!, In Good Time, and Brandon Goldberg Trio: Live at Dizzy’s. His collaborators have included Ben Wolfe, Donald Edwards, Ralph Peterson, Luques Curtis, and David Foster; he has also appeared with Chris Botti at the Hollywood Bowl and accompanied Katharine McPhee on television. DownBeat praised his “unassailable technique, advanced harmonic understanding, a deep sense of swing” and “clarity and plethora of ideas executed to near-perfection.” Dark Blue Notes highlighted his “impeccable sense of time” and “spotless communication with the accompaniment.”
The Django offers a subterranean jazz experience inspired by Parisian boîtes, with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls that frame a stage equipped with a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system. The venue combines two cocktail bars and an open dining area where you can enjoy an elevated menu alongside live performances every night. The evening unfolds with a focus on attentive listening, enhanced by award-winning cocktails crafted by Natasha David and a selection of small plates and dinner options. Shows require a cover charge and reservations are recommended to secure your spot. The setting invites you to settle in for a night of rich jazz sounds, fine food, and carefully mixed drinks, all within the cellar level of the Roxy Hotel, creating a distinct mood that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
