Who’s Live Today?

BETTY

City Winery NYCHudson River Park Esplanade, New York 10014

BETTY brings a holiday homecoming to City Winery’s Main Stage: the indie trio of Alyson Palmer on bass and vocals, Amy Ziff on cello and vocals, and Elizabeth Ziff on guitar, vocals and programming. The evening is billed as a winter program of festive songs, hilarious stories and candy-cane-hooky harmonies, with friends, family and guest stars joining the celebration. Expect the group’s three-part vocal blend to be at the heart of a set designed to slow the seasonal rush down a little.

Formed in Washington, D.C. in 1986 and now based in New York City, BETTY has built a career around indie pop, “beguiling melodies, compelling lyrics and signature harmonies.” Their work stretches from concert stages to screen and theater: they wrote theme songs including Showtime’s The L Word and HBO’s Encyclopedia, appeared in Life With Mikey, and brought their musical BETTY RULES to Off-Broadway under director Michael Greif. The trio has also performed with more than a hundred artists, from James Brown to Sia, and pursues activism through music as Stonewall Ambassadors and State Department Arts Envoys. NPR’s Scott Simon called them a trio that “makes it sound like fun” to keep an indie-rock band together.

City Winery at Pier 57 is a restaurant winery with live music on an intimate stage, offering a full evening experience that combines dinner, wine, and live music. The venue features two performance spaces: a seated 350-seat concert hall and a smaller 150-capacity loft space, with a 100-seat restaurant including a pizza bar and coffee roasting station. Guests enjoy views of the Hudson River and Pier 57, located in Chelsea on Manhattan’s west side, near Chelsea Market. The intimate setting allows audiences to experience performances up close in a seated environment, with a diverse lineup including national touring artists, singer-songwriters, jazz musicians, and comedy shows.
