Jon Regen LIVE at Roxy Bar
Roxy Bar2 Avenue of the Americas, New York 10013
Jon Regen plays live at Roxy Bar on this Sunday evening. Billed simply as Jon Regen LIVE, the listing does not specify whether he will appear solo or with a band, but it places his singer, songwriter and piano work alongside the bar’s cocktails and oysters. It is a chance to hear a musician whose route from instrumental jazz to song-led material remains central to his live identity.
A native New Yorker and protégé of pianist Kenny Barron, Regen started as a sideman for Kyle Eastwood and Little Jimmy Scott before releasing acclaimed instrumental jazz records and moving into singer-songwriter work. He has recorded with Andy Summers, Benmont Tench, Chuck Leavell and Nick Rhodes; his 2023 album Satisfied Mind featured Ron Carter, Rob Thomas and Pino Palladino. Jamie Cullum premiered its title track on BBC Radio 2, while Jazz FM named it Album of the Week. The Associated Press called Regen’s songs, tenor and grand piano “a captivating combination”; the Wall Street Journal heard “a confident, soulful singer,” and DownBeat wrote that his music “shoots from, and directly into, the heart.”
Roxy Bar offers a stylish setting where live jazz fills the air, accompanied by a menu that caters to diverse tastes including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. The room features plush seating and a well-stocked bar, creating a comfortable environment to enjoy performances by resident musicians or special guests. The venue balances attentive service with a relaxed vibe, making it a place to savor both cocktails and music without distraction. Its location in Tribeca adds a downtown charm, inviting guests to linger over oysters or a crafted cocktail while soaking in the sounds.
