An Evening With Eilen Jewell with Special Guest Andy Friedman

Eilen Jewell heads to The Loft at City Winery NYC for an evening with special guest Andy Friedman. The show centers on Jewell’s current chapter, including material from Get Behind the Wheel, an album co-produced by Will Kimbrough. Its songs reckon with grief, loss, resilience, and redemption after a period when her marriage, band, and career all seemed to collapse. The record extends her vintage roots-noir sound into psychedelic territory, using spacious, cinematic arrangements.
An Idaho native, Jewell built her audience through relentless touring and has released nine albums. She is known for a tight quartet sound that draws together surf-noir, early blues, classic country, folk, and 1960s rock and roll. Along the way, she has shared bills with Lucinda Williams, Loretta Lynn, Mavis Staples, Wanda Jackson, George Jones, and Emmylou Harris. American Songwriter calls her “one of America’s most intriguing, creative, and idiosyncratic voices.” Rolling Stone praised her “clever writing,” while NPR heard a “sweet and clear voice with a killer instinct lurking beneath the shiny surface.” Friedman, the evening’s guest, is also a visual artist and writer; his three studio albums of original songs have earned praise as the work of a “gifted storyteller.”
