Jazz Brunch! with Glenn Crytzer Quartet

Peck Slip Social235 Front Street, New York 10038

Glenn Crytzer Quartet brings its Jazz Brunch! series to Peck Slip Social on Saturday afternoon. The billed quartet is led by guitarist and bandleader Glenn Crytzer, though the lineup for this date is not specified. Expect a small-group program rooted in the jazz and American Songbook repertoire of the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s, with the kind of early swing material Crytzer has made a sustained specialty.

Based in New York City, Crytzer leads both combos and an orchestra devoted to bringing the Jazz Age and Swing Era to life “with unparalleled authenticity.” His groups have appeared at Lincoln Center, the Rainbow Room, the USS Intrepid and the Django. With the quartet, Crytzer’s Songbook Sessions recorded ten songs from each year from 1920 through 1944, tracing popular song chronologically across that period. The Syncopated Times calls the playing “exquisite” and names Crytzer “a guitar wonder.” Making A Scene! praises the quartet’s command of music from the ’20s through ’40s, calling it “a clear exception” among current jazz artists and concluding, “What’s old is incredibly new again.”

Peck Slip Social is a basement club tucked into the Seaport District where music takes center stage in a room with a stage, a bar, and a few tables. Shows run from 7 PM to 10 PM, with the audience seated at small tables or standing near the stage. The bar is open for drinks before and after the performance, and the room is intimate enough that you can hear the band clearly from the back. It's a place where people come to listen, talk, and enjoy a night out with friends. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with a mix of genres from jazz to rock. The venue has a history of hosting live music and continues to operate at its original location.
