Carlos Henriquez Nonet
Dizzy's Club102 Columbus Circle, New York 10107
Carlos Henriquez brings his award-winning nonet back to Dizzy’s Club for a nine-piece program that joins jazz to Afro-Caribbean rhythms and the cultural legacy of New York’s Nuyorican community. Henriquez plays bass alongside trombonist Marshall Gilkes, tenor saxophonist Melissa Aldana, trumpeters Mike Rodriguez and Terell Stafford, Anthony Almonte on congas and vocals, Jeremy Bosch on flute and vocals, pianist Robert Rodriguez, and drummer Obed Calvaire. The program returns following last year’s sold-out run, with dynamic ensemble music and storytelling at its core.
Henriquez is a bassist and composer, and a standout member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. His work draws on his roots while placing Afro-Caribbean rhythmic traditions inside a jazz setting, foregrounding the musical and cultural connections of the Nuyorican community. This nonet is the vehicle for that broad perspective: a large, sharply defined band built to move between composed passages, improvisation, percussion-driven momentum, and vocals.
Dizzy's Club offers a refined jazz experience with a seating capacity of about 140, where guests enjoy live performances from world-class musicians in a room that frames sweeping views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline. The venue features a full bar and a seasonal menu with sophisticated soul food, enhancing the evening beyond just the music. Shows are ticketed and typically run two sets per night, with late-night sessions available without reservation. The seating is generally first-come, first-served, encouraging early arrival for the best vantage points. The club’s location within Jazz at Lincoln Center places it in a lively cultural hub, making it ideal for a night that blends attentive listening with the pleasure of fine dining and cityscape views.
