Or Bareket: AYIN Album Release

Joe's Pub425 Lafayette Street, New York 10003

Or Bareket brings his AYIN album release to Joe’s Pub in a quartet setting, led by the Brooklyn-based bassist, composer and bandleader. The supplied material does not confirm the personnel for this particular performance. For AYIN, Bareket is documented on double bass with Godwin Louis on alto and soprano saxophones, Savannah Harris on drums, and piano credited either to Fabian Almazan or Esteban Castro in differing sources; the album also includes vocals by Rasha Nahas. WBGO describes the project as an effort to “reclaim, recite, and restructure what has been lost.”

Bareket is regarded by Joe’s Pub as “one of the leading voices of his generation on the New York and international jazz scenes,” recognized for “lyricism, rhythmic dexterity, and groove-forward approach to playing and composition.” His music has been described as “lyrical and rhythmically rich,” rooted in collective improvisation and drawing on North African, Iraqi and Latin American influences alongside African-American music. He has worked with Joel Ross, Etienne Charles, Camila Meza, Ben Wendel and Yosvany Terry, and has performed with Joshua Redman, Chris Potter, Marta Sánchez, José James, Aaron Parks and Sullivan Fortner.

The stage is set in a converted library space with a striped bar and photos of legends like Leonard Cohen and Amy Winehouse lining the walls. You'll find yourself seated on velvet couches or at candle-lit tables, close enough to hear every note from the back. The sound, engineered by technicians who've worked with John Legend and The Notorious B.I.G., is consistently ranked among the best in New York. Three shows a day, dinner and drinks served throughout, and a menu ranging from Italian small plates to craft cocktails; it's a place where music and conversation flow together, and where both rising stars and legends have made their U.S. debuts.
