Cowboy Junkies - Celebrating 40 Years and Beyond
City Winery NYCHudson River Park Esplanade, New York 10014
Cowboy Junkies bring their 40 Years and Beyond program to City Winery NYC’s Main Stage: a career-spanning concert that traces the band’s work from The Trinity Session through their recent album, Such Ferocious Beauty. The evening centers on songs from a catalog built across four decades, including the quiet, reflective sound that first brought the group wide attention in the late 1980s. Expect a retrospective set rather than a single-album presentation, with the band’s long-running musical identity in focus.
Formed in Toronto in 1985, Cowboy Junkies began with siblings Michael Timmins on guitar, Margo Timmins on vocals and Peter Timmins on drums, alongside bassist Alan Anton, Michael’s lifelong friend. Their 1988 recording The Trinity Session combined folk, blues and rock and sold more than a million copies; it became a defining release for a group that has made 29 albums without a breakup or hiatus. AllMusic calls them “one of the most unique and enduring bands in alternative rock.” The New York Times says Margo Timmins’s voice remains “as melancholy and enchanting as ever,” while The Mercury News hears something “nearly miraculous” in the fit between her voice and Michael Timmins’s pained lyrics.
City Winery at Pier 57 is a restaurant winery with live music on an intimate stage, offering a full evening experience that combines dinner, wine, and live music. The venue features two performance spaces: a seated 350-seat concert hall and a smaller 150-capacity loft space, with a 100-seat restaurant including a pizza bar and coffee roasting station. Guests enjoy views of the Hudson River and Pier 57, located in Chelsea on Manhattan’s west side, near Chelsea Market. The intimate setting allows audiences to experience performances up close in a seated environment, with a diverse lineup including national touring artists, singer-songwriters, jazz musicians, and comedy shows.
