Igor Lumpert leads a quartet with pianist Marta Sánchez, bassist Noah Garabedian and drummer Mark Whitfield Jr., playing tenor and soprano saxophone.

Born in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, Lumpert has recorded five albums with his fluctuating band Innertextures and has played with or studied with Chico Hamilton, Sonny Simmons, John Abercrombie, Billy Harper, Buster Williams and Robert Glasper. His music draws on jazz tradition, odd time signatures and Slovenian folk music; a Bandcamp description says it has “added something new and unidentifiable.”

Ornithology Jazz Club offers a focused jazz experience centered around a striking Bechstein Grand Piano, inviting guests into a space where the music and cocktails share equal importance. The room is compact, allowing the audience to sit close to the performers and catch every nuance of the live sets, which often extend into the late night. The venue features a well-curated cocktail menu that complements the music, making it a place to savor both sound and flavor. The setting encourages attentive listening rather than casual conversation, creating a shared moment of musical immersion. With its location in Bushwick, Brooklyn, the club blends a creative, bohemian spirit with a dedication to jazz tradition, making an evening here feel like a personal journey into the heart of the music.
