Ms. Lisa Fischer featuring Orrin Evans Trio

Ms. Lisa Fischer joins the Orrin Evans Trio at Birdland for a singer-and-piano-led-trio collaboration. Fischer’s soulful, versatile vocals meet Evans’s piano artistry and arrangements in a set that moves through jazz, soul and material beyond fixed genre lines. The billed trio is the evening’s formation; the supplied information does not name its other musicians. Their partnership has also appeared as a duo and alongside Evans’s Captain Black Big Band, but here the focus is Fischer with the trio.

Fischer is a Grammy- and Oscar-winning vocalist whose four decades of collaborators include the Rolling Stones, Luther Vandross, Sting, Chaka Khan, Tina Turner and Nine Inch Nails; Keith Richards, her Rolling Stones colleague for 26 years, praised her “amazing power, energy, and projection.” Evans is a Philadelphia pianist, composer and bandleader who leads the Captain Black Big Band and co-leads Tarbaby, and has worked with Bobby Watson, Branford Marsalis and Ralph Peterson Jr. The New York Times calls him “jazz’s most resourceful and invigorating contemporary pianist,” while All About Jazz hears Fischer’s “soaring, acrobatic vocal power” in dialogue with his “refined, inventive jazz arrangements.”
