Kaki King and Tamar Eisenman bring their guitar work together for a stripped-down presentation of SEI at The Loft. The piece uses 16 guitars, tailored tunings and synchronized player movement to make composition physical: notes emerge through choreography, and the performance moves between music, dance and body language. This version also opens up the work's compositional process, exploring the musical and physical possibilities of the guitar through themes including love, hate, parenthood, creativity and compassion.
Brooklyn-based Kaki King was the first woman named to Rolling Stone's "guitar god" list, and the magazine called her "a genre unto herself." Her work has taken her to stages around the world, including appearances with Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters, the London Jazz Festival and Paris Les Femmes s'en Melent; she also contributed music to Sean Penn's Into The Wild. Eisenman is a guitarist, singer-songwriter and composer with seven studio albums and an Emmy nomination in Israel for the original soundtrack to the documentary The COS. Her recent instrumental EP Morningside comprises six pieces reflecting on expanded genre traditions and her path as a guitarist.
City Winery at Pier 57 is a restaurant winery with live music on an intimate stage, offering a full evening experience that combines dinner, wine, and live music. The venue features two performance spaces: a seated 350-seat concert hall and a smaller 150-capacity loft space, with a 100-seat restaurant including a pizza bar and coffee roasting station. Guests enjoy views of the Hudson River and Pier 57, located in Chelsea on Manhattan’s west side, near Chelsea Market. The intimate setting allows audiences to experience performances up close in a seated environment, with a diverse lineup including national touring artists, singer-songwriters, jazz musicians, and comedy shows.
