Joe Farnsworth Quartet
The Django2 6th Avenue, New York 10013
Joe Farnsworth brings his quartet to The Django for an evening of straight-ahead jazz led from the drum chair. Farnsworth is joined by Mejedi Owuso on trumpet, Caelan Cardello on piano, and Joey Ranieri on bass. The billed four-piece puts a seasoned New York drummer at the helm, with trumpet, piano, and bass completing the group.
Farnsworth is described by the venue as one of New York City’s most highly regarded jazz drummers, known for “blazing speed, precision, musical, and melodic playing.” After moving to New York, he led weekend jazz combos at Augie’s, now Smoke Jazz & Supper Club. His career includes more than 100 recordings as a leader and sideman, as well as festival appearances and world tours. His collaborators have included Junior Cook, Cecil Payne, John Ore, Big John Patton, Harold Mabern, Eddie Henderson, John Jenkins, Pharaoh Sanders, Horace Silver, McCoy Tyner, Cedar Walton, Diana Krall, Benny Golson, George Coleman, Johnny Griffin, Lou Donaldson, Benny Green, Barry Harris, and Curtis Fuller.
The Django offers a subterranean jazz experience inspired by Parisian boîtes, with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls that frame a stage equipped with a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system. The venue combines two cocktail bars and an open dining area where you can enjoy an elevated menu alongside live performances every night. The evening unfolds with a focus on attentive listening, enhanced by award-winning cocktails crafted by Natasha David and a selection of small plates and dinner options. Shows require a cover charge and reservations are recommended to secure your spot. The setting invites you to settle in for a night of rich jazz sounds, fine food, and carefully mixed drinks, all within the cellar level of the Roxy Hotel, creating a distinct mood that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
