Bill Dobrow LIVE at Roxy Bar
Roxy Bar2 Avenue of the Americas, New York 10013
Bill Dobrow brings his evolving Roxy Bar ensemble to TriBeCa for a Wednesday night performance shaped by jazz improvisation and his work crafting music for singers across a range of styles. The drummer, percussionist and producer leads a lineup drawn from local and international collaborators, with the particular personnel changing over time. It is a chance to hear a musician whose downtown New York work moves between his own groups and projects led by other artists.
Dobrow lives in New York City and has toured and recorded with artists including The Black Crowes, Sean Lennon, Yoko Ono, Norah Jones, Martha Wainwright, Lisa Loeb, Jesse Harris and Joseph Arthur & The New Professionals, featuring Mike Mills of R.E.M. His recent New York appearances include performances with Patti Smith, Rhymefest, Anthony Wilson and Vinicius Cantuaria, while festival dates have taken him on the road with Valerie June. In Brazil, he can be heard on chart-topping records by Maria Gadú and Tiago Iorc. He also co-produced Jesse Harris’s Rio-recorded Sub Rosa, featuring Conor Oberst, Bill Frisell and Melody Gardot, and studied Black Music and Improvisation with Milford Graves.
