THE LUNAR FRONTIER: Cowboy Bebop x Eternal Wind
The Red Pavilion256 Ingraham Street, New York 11237
Owen Chen’s Eternal Wind Quintet brings its Cowboy Bebop program to The Lunar Frontier, pairing Yoko Kanno’s score for the series with the hard-bop and blues standards that informed it, including music associated with Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey and Duke Ellington.
Led by guitarist Owen Chen, Eternal Wind is a cinematic jazz quintet that recasts film and game music through modern jazz improvisation. Its sound draws on bebop, post-bop and contemporary jazz; BroadwayWorld called the group “tender, aching, dark, and explosively alive.”
The Red Pavilion offers a striking blend of Asian neo-noir aesthetics and live jazz performances that create a captivating evening. The venue’s interior channels a 1960s Hong Kong vibe with red lanterns, velvet curtains, and smoky lighting that envelop the room in a cinematic glow. The space functions as a teahouse by day and transforms into a sultry nightclub with a full bar serving inventive Asian herbal cocktails by night.
