Concert – Manchester Orchestra

New York Society for Ethical CultureAdler Hall2 West 64th Street, New York 10023

Manchester Orchestra marks 20 years of its 2006 debut, I’m Like a Virgin Losing a Child, with Andy Hull and Robert McDowell performing the album in full as a duo. After the complete-album set, they will play selections from across the band’s career.

The Atlanta band is known for cinematic arrangements, intricate guitar work and Hull’s raw vocals. Their debut, described by BrooklynVegan as “a certifiable indie rock classic,” returns to the band’s energetic, emo-tinged early work; a reviewer has called the duo’s performances “equally as powerful acoustically as with a full band,” with “a high emotional weight.”

Adler Hall at the New York Society for Ethical Culture offers a distinctive concert experience within a grand auditorium marked by high vaulted plaster ceilings, arched stained-glass windows, and dark wood paneling that frames the space with historic elegance. The fixed pew-style seating with padded cushions ensures clear sightlines and good acoustics, especially in the lower sections where sound is crisp and balanced. The venue hosts a variety of live music performances, often ticketed, with a house PA system and options for additional musical support. While the bathrooms are located in the basement and the upper levels can get warm, the hall’s architectural charm and well-maintained interior create a memorable setting for an evening of attentive listening. The venue remains active and continues to welcome audiences for diverse cultural events.
