Anthony Bolden Trio

Arthur's Tavern57 Grove Street, New York 10014

Anthony Bolden brings his trio to Arthur’s Tavern for an early-week set led by the Brooklyn-based saxophonist, composer, and educator. The billing names the Anthony Bolden Trio, with no additional personnel announced, placing the focus on Bolden’s writing and saxophone within the trio format. It is a chance to hear a New York musician whose work has already taken him through some of the city’s established rooms.

Originally from Elgin, Illinois, Bolden earned a bachelor’s degree in music at the University of North Texas and a master’s degree in music from NYU. Since moving to New York City, he has performed with Dezron Douglas, Manuel Valera, and Tyreek McDole. His New York appearances have included Blue Note NYC, Dizzy’s, Five Spot Jazz, and Zinc. Alongside performing, he is also an educator, and the Arthur’s listing presents him as both a composer and a saxophonist.

Arthur's Tavern is a basement club in the West Village where jazz, Latin, and blues are played with deep roots and modern energy. The stage is small, the room intimate, and the audience sits close to the musicians, often with a few people standing near the back. Shows start around 5 PM and go late, with some sets extending into the early hours. The club has a history of hosting top-tier performers since 2001, including regular appearances by Yuichi Hirakawa Jazz Group. It's a place where music is the center, and conversation flows naturally between the audience and the performers.
