Ms. Lisa Fischer featuring Orrin Evans Trio
Birdland315 West 44th Street, New York 10036
Ms. Lisa Fischer brings her voice to Birdland with the Orrin Evans Trio. The billed collaboration joins Fischer’s soulful, versatile singing to Evans’ piano artistry, with the trio setting leaving room for emotive delivery and inventive arrangements. Their shared repertoire moves through jazz, soul, and beyond, and the evening centers on the interplay between Fischer’s vocal possibilities and Evans’ arrangements rather than a fixed supporting lineup, which has not been named for this date.
Fischer is a Grammy-winning vocalist, recognized for “How Can I Ease the Pain” and for appearing in the Oscar-winning documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom. Across four decades, she has sung with the Rolling Stones, Luther Vandross, Sting, and Tina Turner; Keith Richards, her Rolling Stones colleague for 26 years, praised her “amazing power, energy, and projection.” Evans is a Philadelphia-born pianist whose work with Fischer has been described by All About Jazz as pairing her “soaring, acrobatic vocal power” with his “refined, inventive jazz arrangements.” A report on a 2025 performance heard iconic soul songs “revitalized by a fresh, jazz-infused rhythm.”
