Carlos Henriquez Nonet

Dizzy's Club102 Columbus Circle, New York 10107

Carlos Henriquez brings his award-winning nonet back to Dizzy’s Club for a 7 p.m. set on December 30. The bassist and composer leads a nine-piece band featuring trombonist Marshall Gilkes, tenor saxophonist Melissa Aldana, trumpeters Mike Rodriguez and Terell Stafford, Anthony Almonte on congas and vocals, Jeremy Bosch on flute and vocals, pianist Robert Rodriguez, and drummer Obed Calvaire. The program blends jazz with Afro-Caribbean rhythms, with music and storytelling that honor Henriquez’s roots and the cultural legacy of New York’s Nuyorican community. It returns after last year’s sold-out run.

Henriquez is a bassist and composer and a standout member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. His work draws directly on Afro-Caribbean traditions alongside jazz, placing the rhythmic and cultural connections of the Nuyorican community at the heart of this nonet project. The scale of the group makes room for brass, reeds, flute, piano, percussion, drums, vocals, and Henriquez’s bass, framing his compositions as ensemble music rather than a bass feature alone. This appearance reunites the full nonet in the Jazz at Lincoln Center setting where Henriquez is already a familiar presence.

Dizzy's Club offers a refined jazz experience with a seating capacity of about 140, where guests enjoy live performances from world-class musicians in a room that frames sweeping views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline. The venue features a full bar and a seasonal menu with sophisticated soul food, enhancing the evening beyond just the music. Shows are ticketed and typically run two sets per night, with late-night sessions available without reservation. The seating is generally first-come, first-served, encouraging early arrival for the best vantage points. The club’s location within Jazz at Lincoln Center places it in a lively cultural hub, making it ideal for a night that blends attentive listening with the pleasure of fine dining and cityscape views.
