Who’s Live Today?

Aeterna Fuse

Arthur's Tavern57 Grove Street, New York 10014

Aeterna Fuse brings together pianist Michael Denis, multi-percussionist Matthew Nelson, and guitarist and bassist Siddartha Suppiah. Their set draws on a shared interest in improvisation and fusion: Denis connects classical piano and church-hymn study with jazz harmony, while Nelson’s work spans classical orchestral and jazz traditions. Suppiah supplies guitar and bass, giving the group a flexible instrumental lineup built for the interplay suggested by its members’ varied training.

Denis discovered jazz in high school and was drawn to its freedom and improvisational spirit; his playing is described as soulful and distinct. Nelson is from Union, New Jersey, studies music performance at Rutgers University, and has worked with Robby Ameen and Joe Tompkins. His technical grounding feeds an interest in genre-blending and progressive fusion. Suppiah is from Princeton, New Jersey, graduated from Rutgers with degrees in environmental science and jazz studies, and has studied with Dave Stryker, Alex Apollo, and Kenny Davis. His experience ranges from theatrical pit orchestras to appearances at venues including the Cutting Room, Bitter End, Asbury Lanes, Stone Pony, NBPAC, and Tavern on George.

Arthur's Tavern is a basement club in the West Village where jazz, Latin, and blues are played with deep roots and modern energy. The stage is small, the room intimate, and the audience sits close to the musicians, often with a few people standing near the back. Shows start around 5 PM and go late, with some sets extending into the early hours. The club has a history of hosting top-tier performers since 2001, including regular appearances by Yuichi Hirakawa Jazz Group. It's a place where music is the center, and conversation flows naturally between the audience and the performers.
