Who’s Live Today?

Mor ve Ötesi

Drom85 Avenue A, New York 10009

Mor ve Ötesi bring their four-piece band to DROM for the first of a four-night New York run, with performances also scheduled November 27 and 28. The Istanbul group’s set comes from a band whose Turkish-language songs and socially conscious writing have made it a major force in modern Turkish rock for more than three decades. Expect the full-band charge of Harun Tekin on vocals and rhythm guitar, Kerem Kabadayı on drums, Burak Güven on bass, and Kerem Özyeğen on lead guitar.

Formed in Istanbul in 1995, Mor ve Ötesi broke through with their fourth album, Dünya Yalan Söylüyor, released in 2004 and described as “widely regarded as a hallmark of the Turkish rock scene.” The band represented Turkey at Eurovision in 2008 with “Deli,” and has paired its music with public concerns, joining other Turkish musicians on the anti-war song “Savaşa hiç gerek yok.” DROM calls them one of Turkey’s most influential and beloved rock bands, known for powerful songwriting, socially conscious lyrics, and electrifying live performances. Another venue description hears a “rebellious powerhouse of modern Turkish rock,” with “revolutionary lyrics that transcend language.”

Drom offers a richly textured experience where music from around the world fills a compact, warmly lit room in Manhattan's East Village. The venue features a bar and serves small plates inspired by Spanish, Turkish, and Italian cuisines, complemented by an eclectic wine and cocktail list. Shows here often highlight cultural diversity, ranging from jazz and electronic to soul and world music, creating a night where attentive listening blends with socializing over drinks. Seating is available but limited, encouraging a close connection to the performers. Events typically start in the evening, with ticketing details varying by show, so planning ahead can enhance the experience. The venue’s walls and layout invite you to immerse yourself in the sounds and flavors, making each visit a unique journey through global music traditions.
