ANDERSON BROTHERS: THE AMERICAN SONGBOOK

Birdland315 West 44th Street, New York 10036

Peter and Will Anderson bring The American Songbook to Birdland with their all-star quintet. The identical-twin, Juilliard-trained reed players will interpret songs associated with George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers and Harold Arlen, focusing the set on enduring standards and the writers behind them.

Washington, DC natives Peter and Will Anderson are Grammy-winning clarinet and saxophone players whom The New York Times called “virtuosos on clarinet & saxophone.” They have headlined at the Blue Note, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, the New Orleans Jazz Festival and Feinstein’s 54 Below, and appeared on Garrison Keillor’s Prairie Home Companion. Their playing is heard on the Grammy-winning Boardwalk Empire soundtrack with Vince Giordano’s Nighthawks, while their screen appearances include Revolutionary Road, Killers of the Flower Moon, Boardwalk Empire and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Birdland offers a refined jazz experience in a room where the audience sits at tables close to the stage, allowing every note to reach you clearly. The venue features a full menu with dishes like New Orleans-style gumbo alongside a well-stocked bar, making it easy to enjoy a meal or drinks while listening. Each show is ticketed per set, encouraging focused listening as the music unfolds in roughly 45-minute segments. The club’s walls echo decades of jazz history, having hosted legends and continuing to attract top contemporary artists. Located in Manhattan’s Theater District, the space balances a serious music environment with the energy of a night out, where attentive audiences savor the performances without distraction. Booking ahead is essential, as the club fills quickly for its celebrated lineup.
