Jon Regen’s resident Thursday appearance at Roxy Bar is billed as a quartet performance, with the singer, songwriter and pianist leading the live set.
A New Yorker and protégé of Kenny Barron, Regen began as a sideman for Kyle Eastwood and Little Jimmy Scott before moving from instrumental jazz into songwriting. He has recorded with Andy Summers, Benmont Tench, Chuck Leavell and Nick Rhodes. The Wall Street Journal calls him “a confident, soulful singer,” while DownBeat says his music “shoots from, and directly into, the heart.”
