Houseplant and Boojum share the bill at The Sultan Room. Louisville’s five-piece Houseplant brings a set built to let composed songs stretch into improvisation, balancing lyrical writing and song structure with psychedelic textures and groove-driven rhythm. Boojum arrives with its theatrical jamband approach, where extended improvisation and storytelling can be joined by visual art, comedy, costumes, dancers, actors, props and projections.
Formed in Louisville, Kentucky, in 2020, Houseplant is Tommy Arnspiger, Ben Atkind, Tavis Conley, Chris “Roadie” Rodahaffer and Sam Richardson. The group calls its music “genre-fluid,” drawing together improvisation, indie-rock storytelling and lush psychedelic soundscapes. Relix says Houseplant has “built its reputation on choice live performances”; its 2025 release Explorations Vol.: The Opal Sun includes six tracks across 50 minutes, including the 17-minute “South Nepal.” Boojum is a New York/Brooklyn band whose debut lineup included Chris Mackin, Josh Santiago, Sarah Elaz and Dan Shein, with lyrics by Tom Mackin. Its sound blends jam, EDM, funk, pop and progressive music. Reviewing its debut, NYSMusic praised its “creative abundance” and “refreshing original jams.”
Conceived as the nightclub counterpart to a resurrected 1930s Wisconsin supper club, this 201-capacity venue pairs elaborate retro-futuristic decor with a high-end d&b audiotechnik sound system, functioning seamlessly as both a live performance stage and a late-night dance spot. The room centers around a sunken floor where crowds gather right against the low stage, flanked by small peripheral booths for seated listeners during quieter sets. Shows are ticketed in advance, with programming shifting between live touring bands, global ensembles, and late-night DJ sets that keep the floor active past 2:00 AM. Between sets, patrons can order drinks from the full bar, step up to the rooftop terrace, or grab a late-night bite from the attached Döner Kebab counter and neighboring dining room.
