The 8-Bit Big Band

Sony Hall235 West 46th Street, New York 10036

The 8-Bit Big Band comes to Sony Hall as a Grammy-winning contemporary symphonic jazz orchestra. The group brings together a large ensemble, described by the band as a 30 to 65 member jazz and pop orchestra, for arrangements that recast video-game music on an orchestral scale. Expect music associated with Mario, Zelda, Sonic, Kirby, Final Fantasy, Tetris and Portal, treated with the detail and force the band seeks to give classic symphonic jazz repertoire.

Most of the band’s international membership is based in New York City. Its project is to give game scores the “same professional treatment” in arranging, performance and production as classic symphonic jazz orchestras. Charlie Rosen arranged and produced Backwards Compatible, which featured guests including Grace Kelly, Adam Neely, Benny Benack III, Leo P., Zac Zinger, Sam Dillon, Steven Feifke, Andrew Gould, Tiffany Mann and Accent. Critics have called the results “astoundingly rich and complex,” “stimulating,” and “a blast, in both senses of the word”; DownBeat wrote of the fifth album that “a thriving subgenre has been forged.”

Sony Hall offers a dynamic live music experience enhanced by cutting-edge technology from Sony, creating a sound and visual environment that elevates every performance. The venue features a spacious room with a full dinner menu available, allowing guests to enjoy a meal alongside the show.
