Jed Levy Quartet
One Flight Up108 Greenwich Street, New York 10006
Jed Levy brings a tenor saxophone quartet to One Flight Up, with Alvester Garnett on drums, Jay Anderson on bass and Misha Tsiganov at the piano. The four-player set puts Levy's saxophone in conversation with a rhythm section and piano team drawn from musicians with substantial jazz credentials. It is a chance to hear a working New York saxophonist leading his own band in a compact listening room.
Levy has been a mainstay of the New York jazz scene for more than 40 years, as both a leader and recording artist. His long-running musical relationships include Jaki Byard, Don Patterson, Jack McDuff, Ron McClure and Headhunters drummer Mike Clark; his wider credits include Junior Mance, Eddie Henderson, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Cedar Walton, Curtis Fuller, Tom Harrell and the Temptations. He has led bands at venues including the Blue Note, Birdland, Smalls and Mezzrow, and toured Japan, China and Europe. In 2012, Jazz at Lincoln Center selected the Jed Levy Quartet for a U.S. Department of State tour of South and Central America. Levy has recorded 11 albums under his own name for SteepleChase and Reservoir; his latest, Faces and Places, has received critical acclaim and ranked highly on airplay charts.
One Flight Up offers a focused listening experience in a compact space where the audience is close enough to catch every nuance of the music. The venue features a full bar and no cover charge, requiring only a minimum drink purchase, which encourages a relaxed yet attentive crowd. Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis, so arriving early can secure a good spot. Shows typically run from early evening into the night with multiple sets, allowing for a deep dive into the performances. The room’s walls are adorned with music-related art, enhancing the sense of being in a dedicated jazz environment. This is a place where the music is the priority, and the vibe supports both serious listening and casual enjoyment.
