Jazz Brunch! with Glenn Crytzer Quartet

Peck Slip Social235 Front Street, New York 10038

Jazz Brunch! brings the Glenn Crytzer Quartet to Peck Slip Social for an afternoon set. Crytzer’s small-group format is flexible, and the personnel for this date have not been specified. His quartet’s repertoire draws on Jazz Age and Swing Era music alongside American Songbook standards, making this a chance to hear that material in a compact ensemble setting rather than a fixed, documented lineup.

New York City bandleader, guitarist, arranger and composer Glenn Crytzer is known for pursuing the sound and repertoire of the 1920s through 1940s. During the pandemic, his Songbook Sessions recorded 250 songs live for a streaming audience, moving chronologically through music written between 1920 and 1944. The quartet has worked with musicians including trumpeter Mike Davis, reed player Ricky Alexander and bassist Ian Hutchison, though its personnel changes. The Syncopated Times called the playing “exquisite” and Crytzer “a guitar wonder.” Making A Scene! wrote that the group “transformed and distilled” vocal and orchestral originals into its own renditions, while a quoted Rolling Stone assessment described the music as “like it could have been recorded 75 years ago. Solid and Delightful.”

Peck Slip Social is a basement club tucked into the Seaport District where music takes center stage in a room with a stage, a bar, and a few tables. Shows run from 7 PM to 10 PM, with the audience seated at small tables or standing near the stage. The bar is open for drinks before and after the performance, and the room is intimate enough that you can hear the band clearly from the back. It's a place where people come to listen, talk, and enjoy a night out with friends. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with a mix of genres from jazz to rock. The venue has a history of hosting live music and continues to operate at its original location.
