Tim Lin Quartet
The Django2 6th Avenue, New York 10013
Tim Lin brings his quartet to The Django for the late set. The billed group is built around tenor saxophone with piano, bass and drums, although the musicians joining Lin for this date have not been announced. Expect Lin’s original material in a working-quartet setting, drawing from a four-album catalog that includes Romance in Formosa, Empathy, Birdwatching and Heartfelt.
A Taiwanese-American saxophonist from the San Francisco Bay Area, Lin is now based in New York. His 2025 album Heartfelt was released by Sony Music Taiwan, and his recordings have included Dick Oatts, Rodney Green, Jeb Patton and David Wong. Lin’s albums have drawn substantial jazz-chart and streaming attention, while a review of Empathy hears solos that create and trace “a scenario,” praising a sound that is “resonant” and “immense.” Critic Neil Tesser writes that Lin “winningly taps into the emotional core of the music.”
The Django offers a subterranean jazz experience inspired by Parisian boîtes, with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls that frame a stage equipped with a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system. The venue combines two cocktail bars and an open dining area where you can enjoy an elevated menu alongside live performances every night. The evening unfolds with a focus on attentive listening, enhanced by award-winning cocktails crafted by Natasha David and a selection of small plates and dinner options. Shows require a cover charge and reservations are recommended to secure your spot. The setting invites you to settle in for a night of rich jazz sounds, fine food, and carefully mixed drinks, all within the cellar level of the Roxy Hotel, creating a distinct mood that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
