Ricardo Grilli Trio

Arthur's Tavern57 Grove Street, New York 10014

Ricardo Grilli brings his trio to Arthur’s Tavern for a guitar-led jazz set shaped by his approach to both originals and standards. The music is described as modern, melodic, dynamic, and built to groove and swing. The afternoon appearance places Grilli’s writing and improvising in the close quarters of the West Village club, with the trio format giving his guitar work room to lead the conversation.

Grilli arrived in New York in 2012 and has since become a noted presence on the city’s jazz circuit. He has performed with Chris Potter, Chris Cheek, Mark Turner, Aaron Parks, Joe Martin, Eric Harland, Kendrick Scott, Kevin Hays, Taylor Eigsti, and others, while headlining rooms including the Blue Note, Iridium, Smalls, Mezzrow, the 55 Bar, Boston’s Scullers, Toronto’s Rex, and São Paulo’s JazzB. Nate Chinen of the New York Times called him “a post-bop guitarist with a sideline interest in the cosmos and a taste for the ultramodern.” In DownBeat, Bill Milkowski wrote that Grilli’s “considerable chops are in full effect in each setting,” calling the work “an admirable outing by a new face on the scene.”

Arthur's Tavern is a basement club in the West Village where jazz, Latin, and blues are played with deep roots and modern energy. The stage is small, the room intimate, and the audience sits close to the musicians, often with a few people standing near the back. Shows start around 5 PM and go late, with some sets extending into the early hours. The club has a history of hosting top-tier performers since 2001, including regular appearances by Yuichi Hirakawa Jazz Group. It's a place where music is the center, and conversation flows naturally between the audience and the performers.
