Birdland315 West 44th Street, New York 10036
Pianist Benny Green brings his jazz trio to Birdland for a classic piano, bass and drums set rooted in straight-ahead hard bop and bebop.
Born in New York City and raised in Berkeley, Green began working as a teenager and went on to tour with Betty Carter, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Freddie Hubbard and Ray Brown. Oscar Peterson named him his protégé in 1992. Critics have praised Green’s “swinging joy and finesse” and his “leaping percussive touch and nonstop bebop flow.”
