Who’s Live Today?

Simona Premazzi Quartet

The Django2 6th Avenue, New York 10013

Simona Premazzi brings her quartet to The Django for a four-piece set led from the piano. Saxophonist Kyle Nasser joins her alongside Noah Garabedian on bass and Jay Sawyer on drums. The group’s music makes room for both composed material and improvisation, with Premazzi’s writing and piano at the center of a band built around her ongoing musical partnership with Nasser.

Originally from a small town outside Milan and now based in New York, Premazzi is a composer, bandleader and pianist whose work has included collaborations with Greg Osby and Jeremy Pelt. The Django calls her “a fearless modernist composer and improviser with a deeply romantic lyricism at her core,” and “one of the most fascinating and creative pianists in New York today.” Her playing moves between hard-swinging, Coltrane Quartet-inspired standards, Monk-like piano figures and richly harmonized ballads. Time Out has described her post-bop as “elegant, introspective,” while New York Jazz Workshop hears the Premazzi and Nasser group in terms of “lustrous melodies, vivid compositions and a dynamic group aesthetic.”

The Django offers a subterranean jazz experience inspired by Parisian boîtes, with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls that frame a stage equipped with a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system. The venue combines two cocktail bars and an open dining area where you can enjoy an elevated menu alongside live performances every night. The evening unfolds with a focus on attentive listening, enhanced by award-winning cocktails crafted by Natasha David and a selection of small plates and dinner options. Shows require a cover charge and reservations are recommended to secure your spot. The setting invites you to settle in for a night of rich jazz sounds, fine food, and carefully mixed drinks, all within the cellar level of the Roxy Hotel, creating a distinct mood that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
