Ricardo Grilli Trio

Arthur's Tavern57 Grove Street, New York 10014

Ricardo Grilli brings his trio to Arthur’s Tavern for an afternoon set built around the guitarist’s original music and standards. The New York jazz scene regular is billed as a dynamic player whose approach balances melodic writing with groove and swing, making room for post-bop language as well as more contemporary ideas.

Grilli arrived in New York in 2012 and has since played with Chris Potter, Chris Cheek, Mark Turner, Aaron Parks, Joe Martin, Eric Harland, Kendrick Scott, Kevin Hays and Taylor Eigsti, among others. His appearances have included the Blue Note, Iridium, Smalls, Mezzrow, 55 Bar and JazzB in São Paulo, as well as clubs in Boston and Toronto. Nate Chinen of The New York Times called him “a post-bop guitarist with a sideline interest in the cosmos and a taste for the ultramodern.” In DownBeat, Bill Milkowski wrote that Grilli’s “considerable chops are in full effect in each setting,” describing him as “a new face on the scene.”

Arthur's Tavern is a basement club in the West Village where jazz, Latin, and blues are played with deep roots and modern energy. The stage is small, the room intimate, and the audience sits close to the musicians, often with a few people standing near the back. Shows start around 5 PM and go late, with some sets extending into the early hours. The club has a history of hosting top-tier performers since 2001, including regular appearances by Yuichi Hirakawa Jazz Group. It's a place where music is the center, and conversation flows naturally between the audience and the performers.
