Herlin Riley and Friends
Dizzy's Club102 Columbus Circle, New York 10107
Herlin Riley brings Herlin Riley and Friends to Dizzy’s Club for a New Orleans-rooted jazz date led by the celebrated drummer. The Friends billing signals a collaborative band setting, but the available information does not confirm the personnel for this particular performance. Other reports from the broader run name different possible lineups, so this is best understood as a Riley-led group set rather than a confirmed quartet roster. At Dizzy’s Club, the performance takes place in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s listening room, with views across Central Park and the Manhattan skyline.
Riley is a New Orleans drummer whose playing Jazz at Lincoln Center describes as combining “melodic finesse and dynamic rhythms,” with “melodic expression and joyful energy.” He has performed alongside pianist Ahmad Jamal and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, placing him in conversation with major figures from both modern jazz and the New Orleans tradition. Material reported for a Thanksgiving engagement included original pieces alongside standards, though that repertoire is not confirmed for this date. No critic reviews or artist-authored description were supplied for this engagement, so there is no further documented account of the group’s sound or its personnel.
