Lauren Sevian Quartet
The Django2 6th Avenue, New York 10013
Lauren Sevian brings her quartet to The Django for a late-night set led by the Grammy-winning baritone saxophonist. The billed group is Sevian’s working quartet, also known as LSQ, with no additional players announced for this date. Expect a bandleader’s set from one of the city’s regularly heard saxophonists, presented on The Django stage.
Sevian came to New York City in 1997 to study at the Manhattan School of Music and soon began touring with Diva and the Artie Shaw Orchestra. Alongside leading LSQ, she co-leads LSAT, a quintet with alto saxophonist Alexa Tarantino that won first place in the 2018 Made in NY jazz competition. Her work as a sidemusician includes regular appearances with the Mingus Big Band, plus performances with the Dizzy Gillespie All Star Big Band, Christian McBride’s Big Band, Robin Eubanks Big Band, and the Count Basie Orchestra. She has received both Grammy and DownBeat Rising Star recognition.
The Django offers a subterranean jazz experience inspired by Parisian boîtes, with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls that frame a stage equipped with a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system. The venue combines two cocktail bars and an open dining area where you can enjoy an elevated menu alongside live performances every night. The evening unfolds with a focus on attentive listening, enhanced by award-winning cocktails crafted by Natasha David and a selection of small plates and dinner options. Shows require a cover charge and reservations are recommended to secure your spot. The setting invites you to settle in for a night of rich jazz sounds, fine food, and carefully mixed drinks, all within the cellar level of the Roxy Hotel, creating a distinct mood that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
