The Smoota Tête-a-Tête / Moon Radio
The Smoota Tête-a-Tête, Moon Radio
Bar LunÀtico486 Halsey Street, New York 11233
The Smoota Tête-a-Tête and Moon Radio join forces for a two-set double bill, with Julia Haltigan on vocals and guitar, Dave “Smoota” Smith on trombone, Yusuke Yamamoto on vibraphone, Tony Jarvis on bass clarinet and flute, Ari Folman-Cohen on bass, and Dylan Fusillo on percussion. The same six musicians play throughout both projects: Smoota Tête-a-Tête brings moody, melodic exotica jazz, while Moon Radio centers Haltigan and Yamamoto’s collaborative songs.
Smith leads Smoota Tête-a-Tête as trombonist and composer, and is known for work with TV On The Radio, Run The Jewels, Aaron Neville, Steven Tyler, Valerie June, Burnt Sugar, and Rev. Vince Anderson & The Love Choir. Haltigan, Smith, and Yamamoto have worked together for years in various bands, including at Sleep No More.
A basement club in Bedford-Stuyvesant, LunÀtico is a musician-owned space where live music starts at 9pm nightly, following dinner service. The stage is modest, with a single chair for the band, and the audience sits on wooden booths or the floor, close enough to feel the energy. The room is lit by dim bulbs, with walls lined with vintage posters and a few well-worn speakers. There's a bar with original cocktails, craft beer, and wine, and a dinner menu available from 6pm to 11pm. Shows are donation-based, with a $10 recommendation in cash. It's a place where people listen to music and talk afterward, in a familiar, unpolished setting.
