Kit Fitzgerald
Roulette509 Atlantic Ave, New York 11217
Roulette presents a celebration of video artist Kit Fitzgerald’s groundbreaking work, built around two U.S. premieres and her lush visual style. The program includes Outside the Box (Yellow), which explores “the parameters of beauty and abstraction” through a real-time mix of video drawing, image processing, and sensuality; Peter Gordon, Max Gordon, and Blake Leyh are featured in the work. Also on the bill is Venezia: Dream of Consciousness, a new-narrative video made with composer Peter Gordon and featuring actor Tomas Arana.
Fitzgerald is a video artist whose practice encompasses video art and live video performance. She has collaborated with musicians, choreographers, and theater and opera directors, and has also directed music videos and documentaries. Her work is held in MoMA’s collection, and she has been included twice in the Whitney Biennial. This program focuses on the breadth of that work, pairing a piece driven by real-time image-making with a narrative collaboration shaped alongside Peter Gordon.
Roulette occupies a beautifully restored 1928 Art Deco theater in Downtown Brooklyn, offering a spacious concert hall with a dramatic proscenium and a balcony that seats up to 400. The venue is known for its exceptional acoustics and sightlines, making every note clear from front to back. Shows here focus on adventurous and experimental music, often featuring world premieres and collaborations across disciplines. The audience is typically attentive, drawn by the venue's commitment to innovative performances rather than casual socializing. A full bar is available, and seating is flexible, with cushioned chairs arranged to suit each event. The venue’s professional sound and lighting systems enhance the experience, and performances are ticketed, with advance purchase recommended. Expect an evening of thoughtful, boundary-pushing art in a setting that respects both the performers and the audience.
