The James Hunter Six - Off the Fence Tour
City Winery NYCHudson River Park Esplanade, New York 10014
The James Hunter Six brings its Off the Fence Tour to The Loft at City Winery NYC, led by British singer, songwriter and guitarist James Hunter. The six-piece is touring behind Off The Fence, its first album for Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound label, and the evening centers Hunter’s rhythm and soul repertoire, from up-tempo R&B to ballads. The new record includes “Ain’t That A Trip,” a duet with Hunter’s longtime collaborator Van Morrison.
Hunter comes from Essex, England, and has spent more than three decades making music with a gritty voice and sharp songwriting. His current band pairs his vocals and guitar with Myles Weeks on double bass, Rudy Albin Petschauer on drums, Andrew Kingslow on keyboards and percussion, Michael Buckley on baritone saxophone, and Drew Vanderwinckel on tenor saxophone. Hunter has worked with Van Morrison as a backing vocalist and guitarist, and has shared stages with Mavis Staples, Aretha Franklin, B.B. King, Etta James and Bonnie Raitt. MOJO called him “The United Kingdom’s Greatest Soul Singer”; The Blues Magazine hears “classic soul-infused blues” and a “relaxed but precise groove,” while God Is in the TV likens much of Off The Fence to “a bunch of lost 1960s soul classics.”
