Gabe Dixon
Joe's Pub425 Lafayette Street, New York 10003
Gabe Dixon brings his current solo work to Joe’s Pub. The available listing identifies the date and artist but gives no further description of the program or any accompanying performers, so this is billed simply as a Gabe Dixon show rather than a Gabe Dixon Band set.
Born and raised in Tennessee and now based in Nashville, Dixon is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who started playing keyboards professionally as a teenager and studied classical piano. His former group, the Gabe Dixon Band, was a piano-driven trio, and reviewers described its music as “piano-pop driven,” rooted in folk and classic rock, with “universally appealing, astute lyrics” and “robust grooves.” Blogcritics called his writing “intelligent and introspective” and “emotionally honest.” Dixon played keyboards on Paul McCartney’s Driving Rain and performed with McCartney, Loggins & Messina, Alison Krauss, Supertramp and O.A.R. His songs have also been recorded by Garth Brooks, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Ben Rector, Keb’ Mo’ and Taj Mahal. “Find My Way” served as the main-title theme for The Proposal.
The stage is set in a converted library space with a striped bar and photos of legends like Leonard Cohen and Amy Winehouse lining the walls. You'll find yourself seated on velvet couches or at candle-lit tables, close enough to hear every note from the back. The sound, engineered by technicians who've worked with John Legend and The Notorious B.I.G., is consistently ranked among the best in New York. Three shows a day, dinner and drinks served throughout, and a menu ranging from Italian small plates to craft cocktails; it's a place where music and conversation flow together, and where both rising stars and legends have made their U.S. debuts.
