Jim Kweskin's 'A Songster's Journey' Album Release

Jalopy Theatre315 Columbia Street, New York 11231

Jim Kweskin celebrates the release of A Songster’s Journey with a songster set that draws on folk, western swing and early jazz. The album’s material is described as a “toe-tapping blend” of those traditions; the lineup for this performance has not been announced.

Raised in Stamford, Connecticut, Kweskin is a singer, guitarist and bandleader best known for founding the 1960s Jim Kweskin Jug Band. His fingerpicking adapts the ragtime-blues approach of Mississippi John Hurt and Pink Anderson to pop and jazz chords. He has worked with Geoff and Maria Muldaur, John Sebastian, David Grisman, Cindy Cashdollar and Samoa Wilson; No Depression called his music “bursting with joy and vitality.”

Jalopy Theatre offers a unique evening centered on folk and traditional music in a space that feels like a blend of a vintage music hall and a community gathering spot. The venue holds around 100 people, with seating that invites close-up listening, allowing you to catch every nuance of the acoustic performances. The walls reflect its roots in handmade and analog traditions, creating a setting where the music’s authenticity is palpable. Adjacent to the theatre, the Jalopy Tavern serves drinks late into the night, often with live music of its own, extending the experience beyond the main show. Shows are ticketed and often feature multiple sets, fostering a night where the music and the crowd’s focus are intertwined, making it a place to truly immerse yourself in the sounds and stories of roots music.
