McCarron studied at the New School. Her quintet won first place in the Cognac Hennessy Jazz Competition, and she was a 1993 semifinalist in the Thelonious Monk Competition. She has worked and toured with Randy Brecker, Vincent Herring, Don Braden, Russel Malone, Harvie S. and Jay Leonhart.
