Hubby Jenkins Acoustic

Terra Blues149 Bleecker Street, New York 10012

Hubby Jenkins brings an acoustic solo performance to Terra Blues. The Brooklyn-born multi-instrumentalist draws on country blues, ragtime, fiddle and banjo traditions, and traditional jazz, with a repertoire shaped by his exploration of Southern roots and African American musical history. The billing does not name additional players, placing the focus on Jenkins’s own songs, stories and instrumental range.

Jenkins began learning in public, busking on New York sidewalks and subway platforms while developing guitar, banjo and vocal craft through the work of earlier artists. He later carried that material through streets, coffee shops, bars and house parties across the United States. Known for sharing the history of old-time American music and African American contributions to it, he was an integral member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops and later worked with Rhiannon Giddens. Reviewing a Fur Peace Ranch concert, Jambands.com wrote that he left listeners “not only entertained” but “smarter than they were when they arrived.” Jorma Kaukonen’s site called him “an artist nonpareil” who plays “with intense artistic precision.”

Terra Blues offers a focused setting where the music takes center attention in a compact room that invites you close to the performers. The venue features a bar but no full kitchen, so the emphasis is on drinks and the live experience rather than dining. Shows often run late into the night, with bands playing until 2 AM, creating a space for extended sets and deep musical immersion. The audience is there to listen and engage with the music, making it a place to savor performances without distraction. The venue’s walls and layout bring you near enough to catch every nuance of the sound, and the late hours mean your evening can stretch into the early morning with soulful blues and electric energy. Terra Blues remains a lively part of Manhattan’s music scene, hosting acts that carry on rich musical traditions.
