Carlos Henriquez Nonet
Dizzy's Club102 Columbus Circle, New York 10107
Carlos Henriquez brings his Nonet to Dizzy’s Club for a nine-piece jazz set shaped by Afro-Caribbean rhythm and New York’s Nuyorican heritage. The group’s work has drawn on distinctive African drum tunings and jazz lyricism, framing Henriquez’s bass-led writing in an ensemble setting rather than as a small-combo feature.
Bronx-born bassist and composer Henriquez has long been a member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. His career includes performances with Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, and Celia Cruz, as well as music direction for performances with Rubén Blades and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Jazz at Lincoln Center calls him “a rare virtuoso in both jazz and Afro-Cuban traditions,” while DownBeat has described him as “an emerging master in the Latin jazz idiom.” Jazz at Lincoln Center also characterizes his work with the nonet as “high-octane storytelling.”
Dizzy's Club offers a refined jazz experience with a seating capacity of about 140, where guests enjoy live performances from world-class musicians in a room that frames sweeping views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline. The venue features a full bar and a seasonal menu with sophisticated soul food, enhancing the evening beyond just the music. Shows are ticketed and typically run two sets per night, with late-night sessions available without reservation. The seating is generally first-come, first-served, encouraging early arrival for the best vantage points. The club’s location within Jazz at Lincoln Center places it in a lively cultural hub, making it ideal for a night that blends attentive listening with the pleasure of fine dining and cityscape views.
