Garin’s Roxy performances blur the line between piano recital and DJ-style musical flow, moving through a deliberately wide-ranging selection that the venue says can encompass Shaggy, Om Kalthum, Rossini, Jobim, Zappa, and Raymond Scott. Garin is a Drama Desk Award winner and a longtime figure in New York nightlife. His résumé includes Elaine’s, the Monkey Bar, the Rainbow Room, and the VIP Room at Limelight. Beyond piano work, he has hosted midnight burlesque shows, co-created and co-starred in the environmental musical Song of Singapore, acted with Spike Lee, and built a following for daily promotional poems in an Ogden Nash style. A pianist, songwriter, singer, poet, actor, and song-and-dance man, he has developed a performance approach that crosses musical and theatrical boundaries, with an evident taste for unexpected juxtapositions and audience exchange.
