Kai Gluska Trio
The Django2 6th Avenue, New York 10013
Kai Gluska brings his organ trio to The Django, with Gluska on guitar, Leonieke Scheubl on organ, and Aaron Seeber on drums. The Brooklyn-based guitarist, composer, and arranger leads the group through original music shaped by jazz, gospel, and R&B, with the organ-trio format putting the focus on the interplay among guitar, organ, and drums.
Israeli-born Gluska established himself with his 2023 debut, Impressions of Yesterday, an album of original compositions recorded with his sextet that combines traditional and modern jazz elements. The record earned him the 2024 Prime Minister’s Prize for Composers, and The Django calls it an introduction to “a distinctive voice in contemporary jazz.” He has performed internationally, including appearances at the Bern Jazz Festival, Tel Aviv Jazz Festival, Smalls, Mezzrow, and Ornithology. Israeli broadcaster Reshet 13 offered a direct recommendation of his work: “It’s worth listening to the sextet led by guitarist and composer Kai Gluska.”
The Django offers a subterranean jazz experience inspired by Parisian boîtes, with vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls that frame a stage equipped with a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound system. The venue combines two cocktail bars and an open dining area where you can enjoy an elevated menu alongside live performances every night. The evening unfolds with a focus on attentive listening, enhanced by award-winning cocktails crafted by Natasha David and a selection of small plates and dinner options. Shows require a cover charge and reservations are recommended to secure your spot. The setting invites you to settle in for a night of rich jazz sounds, fine food, and carefully mixed drinks, all within the cellar level of the Roxy Hotel, creating a distinct mood that feels both exclusive and welcoming.
