Terraza Big Band | Symphonic Journeys
Terraza 740-19 Gleane Street, New York 11373
Terraza Big Band brings its Symphonic Journeys program to Terraza 7. The Queens-based 18-piece ensemble is co-led by saxophonist-composer Michael Thomas and bassist-composer Edward Perez, performing original music by its leaders.
The band's writing joins modern jazz and Latin influences in what AllMusic calls “harmonically sophisticated post-bop and modern creative jazz.” Its Grammy-nominated 2019 debut, One Day Wonder, drew praise for “soaring, self-propelling” compositions, “ambitious and colorful” charts and a “Latin undercurrent.”
Terraza 7 offers a lively setting where Latin jazz and salsa fill the air, creating a rich cultural experience in a spacious venue that invites both listening and socializing. The room features a full bar and a menu with Latin-inspired dishes, making it easy to enjoy a meal or drinks while the music plays. Shows typically start around 8:00 pm, with performances running late into the night, often accompanied by happy hour from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The venue’s layout allows for comfortable seating and standing areas, encouraging an engaging night out where the music is central but conversation flows freely. Its location in Queens adds a vibrant neighborhood feel, making it a destination for those seeking authentic live music and a festive atmosphere.
