Yvonne Rogers brings her quartet to The Jazz Gallery for new work, including selections from Odes, her Roulette Artist Commission project. Rogers plays piano and composes, joined by Stéphane Clément on trumpet, Henry Fraser on bass, and Jonas Esser on drums. The quartet has performed together since 2024; the Odes pieces draw directly on the musical habits, rituals, and timbres of its individual members.
Rogers’ music is rooted in improvisation and play, with an organic approach to rhythm and harmony informed by her rural upbringing. Her releases include the 2023 debut Seeds, the Kris Davis-produced solo album The Button Jar, and recordings with the experimental electronic collective My Trio; quartet album Brackish is due in January 2027. Jazzmania’s Eric Therer called her part of a generation of “talented and adventurous pianists,” adding, “One would give anything to see and hear her play live.”
The Jazz Gallery offers a focused listening room experience on the fifth floor of a Midtown office building, where the audience gathers to hear progressive jazz performed by emerging and established artists. The space is designed to highlight the music without distractions: seating is arranged to bring listeners close to the performers, fostering a direct connection with the sound. There is no food service, but a bar is available, and ticket prices are modest, encouraging accessibility. Shows typically run from 7 to 11 pm on select nights, featuring multiple sets that invite deep engagement rather than casual socializing. The venue’s commitment to artistic growth is evident in its support for new compositions and collaborations, making an evening here a chance to witness jazz as a living, evolving art form in a setting that respects both the musicians and the audience.
