Carlos Henriquez Nonet
Dizzy's Club102 Columbus Circle, New York 10107
Carlos Henriquez brings his award-winning nine-piece band back to Dizzy’s Club for a high-energy program that joins jazz to Afro-Caribbean rhythms, honoring his roots and New York’s Nuyorican cultural legacy. Henriquez plays bass, with Marshall Gilkes on trombone, Melissa Aldana on tenor saxophone, Mike Rodriguez and Terell Stafford on trumpet, Anthony Almonte on congas and vocals, Jeremy Bosch on flute and vocals, Robert Rodriguez on piano, and Obed Calvaire on drums. The return follows the group’s sold-out run last year, with dynamic music and powerful storytelling at the heart of the set.
South Bronx native Henriquez is a bassist, composer and bandleader, as well as a longtime member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. His work blends jazz with Afro-Cuban and broader Afro-Latin traditions, and he has performed with Chucho Valdés, Stevie Wonder, Paco de Lucía, Tito Puente, Bob Dylan, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Willie Nelson and Lenny Kravitz. DownBeat called him “an emerging master in the Latin jazz idiom,” while JazzTimes praised playing that is “clean, crisp and to-the-point.” WRTI called his Grammy-nominated The South Bronx Story “a terrific album.”
Dizzy's Club offers a refined jazz experience with a seating capacity of about 140, where guests enjoy live performances from world-class musicians in a room that frames sweeping views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline. The venue features a full bar and a seasonal menu with sophisticated soul food, enhancing the evening beyond just the music. Shows are ticketed and typically run two sets per night, with late-night sessions available without reservation. The seating is generally first-come, first-served, encouraging early arrival for the best vantage points. The club’s location within Jazz at Lincoln Center places it in a lively cultural hub, making it ideal for a night that blends attentive listening with the pleasure of fine dining and cityscape views.
