Mimi Fox Organ Trio
Dizzy's Club102 Columbus Circle, New York 10107
Mimi Fox brings her Organ Trio to Dizzy’s Club for a guitar-led set that traces a line from Wes Montgomery’s example into her own hard-driving repertoire. Fox is the billed guitarist, leading music that moves through greasy blues and funk, ballads and blazing bebop. The club describes the date as a return to her hometown, with the organ-trio format drawing on the sound she has explored alongside leading organ players.
Born in New York City, Fox leads a trio based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Its usual lineup pairs her guitar with Brian Ho on Hammond B3 organ and Lorca Hart on drums, though only Fox is listed for this performance. She has toured and recorded with Joey DeFrancesco and Barbara Dennerlein, and her collaborators have also included Charlie Byrd, Charlie Hunter, Branford Marsalis, Abbey Lincoln, Diana Krall and Terri Lyne Carrington. The trio’s One for Wes project pays tribute to Montgomery through Montgomery-inspired originals and arrangements. Guitar Player called Fox “a prodigious talent” who has “mastered the traditional forms” and “managed to reinvigorate them,” while Jazz Weekly praised her “inherent sense of swing” and playing “for feeling instead of mindless chops.”
Dizzy's Club offers a refined jazz experience with a seating capacity of about 140, where guests enjoy live performances from world-class musicians in a room that frames sweeping views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline.
