Caity Gyorgy Quartet

Birdland315 West 44th Street, New York 10036

Caity Gyorgy brings her quartet to Birdland for an early evening set. The Canadian vocalist leads a four-piece group with Anthony D’Alessandro on piano, Thomas Hainbuch on bass and Jacob Wutzke on drums. Expect bebop and swing shaped around Great American Songbook standards and Gyorgy’s original songs, which draw on that songwriting tradition.

Gyorgy is a two-time JUNO Award-winning Canadian vocalist, songwriter and clinician who has performed at clubs and festivals across Canada, Mexico, Japan and the United States. She has worked and recorded with Christine Jensen, Pat LaBarbera, Jocelyn Gould, Ira Coleman, Bryn Roberts and Joe LaBarbera. Signed to Brooklyn’s La Reserve Records, she has released original and standard-focused albums including the JUNO-winning Now Pronouncing and Featuring, plus the JUNO-nominated You’re Alike, You Two with pianist Mark Limacher. Her songwriting has also earned the jazz Grand Prize in the 2021 John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Reviewers have singled out her “natural swing, playful phrasing, and mastery of vocal improvisation,” while another called her presence “an absolute delight.”

Birdland offers a refined jazz experience in a room where the audience sits at tables close to the stage, allowing every note to reach you clearly. The venue features a full menu with dishes like New Orleans-style gumbo alongside a well-stocked bar, making it easy to enjoy a meal or drinks while listening. Each show is ticketed per set, encouraging focused listening as the music unfolds in roughly 45-minute segments. The club’s walls echo decades of jazz history, having hosted legends and continuing to attract top contemporary artists. Located in Manhattan’s Theater District, the space balances a serious music environment with the energy of a night out, where attentive audiences savor the performances without distraction.
