Aeterna Fuse
Arthur's Tavern57 Grove Street, New York 10014
Aeterna Fuse brings a three-player set to Arthur’s Tavern: pianist Michael Denis, multi-percussionist Matthew Nelson, and guitarist and bassist Siddartha Suppiah. The group’s listed players point toward a meeting of piano, percussion, guitar and bass, with improvisation and progressive fusion among the musical interests described for its members. It is an early-evening performance in the West Village basement club, where the small stage keeps the musicians and audience close.
Denis came to jazz after early study of classical piano and traditional hymns with a church organist, and now draws together those classical and liturgical roots with jazz’s complex harmonic language. Nelson is from Union, New Jersey, studies music performance at Rutgers University, and has worked with Robby Ameen and Joe Tompkins; his background spans classical orchestral and jazz traditions. Suppiah, from Princeton, New Jersey, holds Rutgers degrees in environmental science and jazz studies and was mentored by Dave Stryker, Alex Apollo and Kenny Davis. His experience ranges from theatrical pit orchestras to rooms including the Cutting Room, Bitter End, Asbury Lanes, Stone Pony and Arthur’s Tavern.
Arthur's Tavern is a basement club in the West Village where jazz, Latin, and blues are played with deep roots and modern energy. The stage is small, the room intimate, and the audience sits close to the musicians, often with a few people standing near the back. Shows start around 5 PM and go late, with some sets extending into the early hours. The club has a history of hosting top-tier performers since 2001, including regular appearances by Yuichi Hirakawa Jazz Group. It's a place where music is the center, and conversation flows naturally between the audience and the performers.
