The James Hunter Six - Off the Fence Tour
City Winery NYCHudson River Park Esplanade, New York 10014
The James Hunter Six bring the Off the Fence Tour to The Loft at City Winery NYC, with British singer and songwriter James Hunter leading his six-piece band. The show follows the release of Off The Fence, the group's first album for Dan Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound label. Its songs return to Hunter's rhythm and soul approach, and the record includes “Ain't That A Trip,” a duet with his longtime collaborator Van Morrison. Expect a set shaped by up-tempo R&B and ballads, delivered through Hunter's gritty vocal style and sharply drawn songs.
Hunter and the band come from Essex, England, and have toured internationally for decades, from clubs to major festivals. A GRAMMY nominee, Hunter has shared stages with Mavis Staples, Aretha Franklin, B.B. King, Etta James, Bonnie Raitt and Van Morrison. MOJO has called him “The United Kingdom’s Greatest Soul Singer,” and its four-star review of Off The Fence said Hunter brings “savoir-faire and authentic grit throughout.” Relix heard the record as “the very best of Hunter’s skill set,” while Americana Highways praised his “sharp songwriting and gritty voice,” noting that he sings “with sincerity and emotion, never slipping into pastiche or imitation.”
